On Friday, Qin Gang, China’s newly appointed foreign minister, and Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, landed in Pakistan for a meeting.

The Chinese Foreign Minister and his Pakistani counterpart, Bilawal Bhutto, will co-chair the fourth edition of the Sino-Pak Strategic Dialogue, which Mr Gang, who is visiting Pakistan for the first time, is expected to attend. The strategic dialogue is a formal process for assessing bilateral collaboration’s efficacy.

In addition, he would take part in a trilateral discussion with Mr Muttaqi and Mr Bhutto.

On the other side, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan, arrived in Islamabad.

Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Hafiz Zia Ahmad tweeted earlier, “Today, a comprehensive political and commercial delegation led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, arrived in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad.”

A Foreign Office statement issued the day before claimed that senior officials from the Afghan ministries of foreign affairs, transport, and trade would be part of the Afghan delegation.

Pakistan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs visited Kabul on November 29, 2022, and a high-level delegation led by Pakistan’s Defence Minister visited Kabul on February 22, 2023; the Interim Foreign Minister of Afghanistan is an extension of this process of political involvement.
