The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has approved the proposed “hybrid model” put forth by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the 2023 Asia Cup.

The following report pertains to Islamabad and has been compiled by the Web Desk. The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) has approved the “hybrid model” proposed by Najam Sethi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, for hosting the Asia Cup this year. The Asia Cup is scheduled for September of the current year.

Per the hybrid model, Pakistan is scheduled to participate in four to six Asia Cup matches at its home stadium. At the same time, India is set to play all their matches at a venue that is not within its jurisdiction.

According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the existing political tensions between India and Pakistan have rendered it unfeasible for the Indian team to participate in the event by traveling to Pakistan. Consequently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formally requested to relocate the continental tournament from Pakistan to a less politically sensitive location.

A formal announcement is anticipated from the Asian body in the upcoming weeks.

Pakistan aims to host a significant portion of the event within its national boundaries.

As per reports, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has tentatively accepted the hybrid model proposed by Mr. Sethi without introducing any additional prerequisites. This model does not mandate Pakistan’s involvement in the upcoming World Cup scheduled to be held in India in October. A formal announcement regarding the matter is expected to be issued by the Asian organization in the coming weeks.

The Asia Cup will feature six teams, namely Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and an additional team that will be selected following the ongoing qualifications in Nepal. The countries of Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will be represented by their respective teams.
